Apple is reportedly planning a major shift in its iOS naming convention, expected to be officially announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9, 2025. Previously expected to be called iOS 19, the upcoming version will instead be named iOS 26, following a calendar-based naming system aligning with the year of release. This rename aims to unify Apple's diverse operating systems—such as iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS—under a consistent numeric format based on the year 2026, simplifying version alignment across devices.
